List of AEU Committees

Here is a short description of each AEU Committee. If you are interested in joining one of these committees, please contact a member of AEU Executive, by clicking here.

Constitution Committee:   This committee is responsible for reviewing the constitution to ensure that it meets our needs and may propose suggested revisions.
 
Grievance Committee:   The committee monitors the grievances which have been filed to ensure that appropriate representation has been assigned.   The committee also reviews recommendations on whether or not to submit grievances to arbitration.   AEU's Chief Steward is automatically a member of this committee.
 
Collective Bargaining Committee:   This committee ensures that notice to bargain is served on time for our various collective agreements and solicits negotiators for each of these agreements.   The committee provides a vehicle to ensure that information about bargaining gains is shared among the units and ensures that inappropriate clauses are not negotiated.
 
Education Committee:   The objective of this committee is to see that education, such as basic steward training, is provided to members.   The committee investigates avenues for training and keeps its finger on the pulse of members. The AEU chair to this committee is Elaine Ouimet.
 
Employment Equity Committee:   This AEU committee is responsible for providing membership input to AEU's representatives on the joint employment equity committee.  
 
Finance and Administration Committee:   This committee oversees the union's financial operation and organizes the input for the annual budget.  AEU's Treasurer is automatically the Chair of this committee.  
 
Communications Committee:   Getting information to and feed back from AEU members is the goal of this committee.   Producing issues of AEU News and working on an AEU web site are some of the tasks undertaken by this committee. The AEU chair to this committee is Elaine Ouimet.
 
Technological Change and Health and Safety Committee:   This committee is responsible for monitoring the introduction and impact of tech change in all our workplaces and making recommendations for needed changes.   It's also responsible for providing membership input to AEU's representatives on the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee.  The AEU chair to this committee is Elaine Massie.
 
Pay Equity Committee:   This committee is responsible for overseeing any outstanding issues regarding the implementation of pay equity in all our units.
 
Pension and Benefits Committee:   The committee is responsible for soliciting and coordinating membership input to our representatives on the Joint Pension Advisory Committee and the Joint Benefits Committee.   This committee's mandate also includes the Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
 
Stewards Committee:   The Committee is a support network for Stewards which provides an opportunity for Stewards to meet regularly in order to exchange information, to discuss training needs and to plan the mobilization of members around strikes and other activities.  AEU's Chief Steward is automatically a  Chair of this committee.
 
Union Management Consultation - PSAC Units:   This committee solicits and collates membership input for the UMC meetings.   Members from Units , II and X are selected from this committee to sit on the UMC.
 
Union Management Consultation - Component Units:   This is the committee for anyone interested in participating in their Unit's consultation process or who is interested in getting one established.  
 
 
Joint Committees
 
Joint Pension Advisory Committee (JPAC).   This committee is composed of representatives of the PSAC and Components and all the unions with bargaining units in the PSAC or Components (includes AEU, CULE, UES, OPEIU), as well as representative from among the retirees.   The joint committee makes recommendations to the administrators of the plan - the PSAC AEC.   The current AEU representatives are Lucette Charron.
 
PSAC Joint Occupational Safety and Health Committee (JOSH) .   This committee deals with health and safety issues for the PSAC Units and is composed of representatives from PSAC, AEU and CULE.   The current AEU representative are Marlene DeVeth..
 
Joint union management consulation committees .   There is one joint committee covering AEU Units I, II and X which is composed of PSAC and AEU representatives.   The current AEU representatives  Marlene DeVeth.   There is also a joint UMC with PSAC Holdings .  
 
Joint employment equity committee (JEEC) .   This committee is composed of representatives from PSAC, AEU, CULE and UES.   The purpose of the committee is to monitor the PSAC EE plan, and to make recommendations for changes to the plan, training, hiring, etc.   The current AEU representatives are:   .
 
Joint Benefits Committee .   This committee was created as a result of an MOU in the last PSAC agreement.   It includes representatives from PSAC, AEU and CULE.   To date the employer has focused exclusively on cost-cutting proposals which is not in keeping with the mandate of the MOU.   The current AEU representatives are:   
Joint Retirees Benefits Committee. This new committee have the mandate to look at the new retirees benefits plan and to make recommendations for its improvment. Marlene DeVeth sits on this committee.
